Charles H. Goren 1974 208pp Cornerstone Library
ISBN:346122961
Backed by expert Charles Papazian, this is your typical 70's boom beginner
book. A lot of time is spent on the "proper" opening moves as well as the
replies to these opening moves. Many of these plays however have been proven
incorrect by bot analyses and are no longer used by competent players. His
doubling windows for race positions are too cnservative (e.g. 79-92 is still
only optional double and take-today a double and drop) as is the play in the
example games. This is all capped off by a ridiculous "hard luck story" I simply
have to repeat. White with 15 men on his 5pt doubles black with 15 men on his
6pt who takes and gammons white due to 7 rolls of 4-2 followed by 2 rolls of
2-2.
