Prince Alexis Obolensky and Ted James 1969 171pp Collier
Books Library of Congress# 71-80797
This book starts off with a geat history of the game followed by the basic
rules of play. Ignore the "First-Move" chapter but the beginner sample game is
simple enoug for any beginner with obvious mistake free moves to get you into
the seing of things. they go on to describe the basics of the running, blocking
and backgames but coverage is incomplete at best on types of gmes and strategies
involved. They finish off with some information on rules, tornament backgammon,
chouettes as well as some useful pyschological and money game tips as well as
some descriptions on a few of the variations of backgammon. Based on the year it
was published I had low expectations for this book but was pleasantly surprised.
A pretty decent work for the beginner and a good read
