Arthur Prager 1977 116pp Hawthorne
Books ISBN:0801581257
A Devious Guide to the Art of Backhanded Backgammon. The title. That's why I
bought this book, the title. I thought it would be an interesting glimpse into
backgammon's dark side, the underbelly of the game.
I cant describe how
disappointing this book is. There's no unveiling of backgammon trickery, or
nefarious cheating methods. The book is a big joke. On purpose even. There are
some remotely amusing scenarios nvolving contrived psychological and mechanical
backgammon skullduggery but certainly nothing that anyone would actually use in
real life or even come across.
Prager has an active imagination and
although there is always some shred of truth in these situations, they are
completely blown out of proprotion and essentially useless to the reader besides
its limited comedic value. The characters he describes are far-fetched and
ridiculous and although I'm sure that is what he intended, it just wasn't what i
was expecting and it is in no way an instructional manual of any sort.
